- Demon Great Hammer is a beast!!! It's by far the best strength weapon I've used so far. When one handed it does 450, and 800 two handed damage, with the ring of blades plus 2. Which is insane. And you can do 360s and catch a enemy trying to backstab you. I've one a lot of games with it. I lost one by a mage spamming soul spear.

★A typical strength-based class
As the name suggests, the Pure Strength is specialized around Strength. In other words, cursed weapons are extremely powerful.
Using the Pure Strength Build
Hold Weapons with Both Hands
The Pure Strengths strong suit is being able to increase Strength by 1.5 by wielding weapons with both hands. Due to this, a weapon with a 45 Strength requirement can be wielded with 30 Strength, and a weapon with a 99 Strength requirement, the max amount, can be wielded with 66 Strength. This makes this build recommendable to both veterens of the Souls series as well as complete beginners.
Buff with Cursed Weapons
Cursed weapons differ from magic attacks in that they simply add onto a weapon's attack points. Using these weapons may require some changing some of your higher stats, but if you can use these weapons well, they are very effective in playthroughs.
Recommended Weapons for the Pure Strength Build
Crushing Weapons
The Strength-based Pure Strength is most utilized with crushing weapons that scale with Strength. In the beginning, we recommend to use the Battle Axe that can be found in Stonefang Tunnel.
List of Crushing Weapons
Mild Hammer | Iron Knuckles | Morning Star |
Mace | Great Axe | Crescent Axe |
Guillotine Axe | Battle Axe | Great Sword |
Claymore | Bastard Sword | Northern Regalia |
Long Sword | Short Sword | Halberd |
Dragon Bone Smasher and Bramd
When using a unique weapon, we recommend the Dragon Bone Smasher or Bramd. Not only are these weapons strong, they both are a shape befitting of the title Pure Strength. However, be prepared to become extremely heavy. The Dragon Bone Smasher has a weight of 22 and Bramd is a heavy 36.

In Dark Souls for the PS3 and Xbox 360, the Demon’s Great Hammer is a giant hammer that you can get early in the game from the Asylum Demon, which is the first boss you find at the very beginning of the game. The Demon’s Great Hammer has 138 attack power, but requires 46 strength to wield effectively.
You fight the Asylum Demon before you get your starting weapon, so the only thing you have to fight the demon with is a sheath to a sword, which isn’t going to do much damage. There is a way to beat this demon however, if you choose the right Gift when creating your character.
When you are creating your character, choose the Black Firebombs as your Gift. This will give you ten Black Firebombs to start off with, and it only takes about five or six to kill the Asylum Demon and get your Demon’s Great Hammer.

Honestly, I wouldn’t suggest going too much out of your way to get this weapon early in the game, since the Demon’s Great Hammer requires 46 strength to wield effectively, so you would have to pump every available point into strength for many levels just to able to wield it properly. You’re also giving up a more valuable gift in order to get the Black Firebombs as well.

Alternatively, you can wait and get the Demon’s Great Hammer later in the game when you have better stats. Once you run into the character named Snuggly that will trade items, you can trade them a Sack to receive the Demon’s Great Hammer.
